چکیده

The kinetics of methane combustion at low temperatures are consistent with a Mars–van Krevelen redox mechanism involving the activation of methane on site pairs consisting of oxygen atoms and oxygen vacancies on the surface of PdOx crystallites. H2O strongly inhibits methane oxidation rates by titrating surface vacancies in a quasi-equilibrated adsorption–desorption step. Initial activation periods during methane oxidation are related to the presence of oxygen-deficient PdOx crystallites, which contain stronger Pd–O oxygen bonds and increase their oxygen content during steadystate combustion reactions. Strong Pd–O bonds in small crystallites and in oxygen-deficient PdOx also lead to the observed decrease in methane oxidation turnover rates as crystallite size decreases or as samples are treated at temperatures above those required for PdOto-Pd decomposition. c © 1998 Academic Press

Isotopic Studies of Methane Oxidation Pathways on PdO Catalysts

Mechanistic details of CH4 oxidation were examined on PdO/ ZrO2 catalysts using isotopic tracer methods and measurements of kinetic isotope effects. Normal kinetic isotope effects were observed using CH4/O2 and CD4/O2 reactant mixtures. The (kH/kD) ratio was between 2.6 and 2.5, and it decreased slightly as the reaction temperature increased from 527 to 586 K. These kinetic isotope effects refl...

Partial oxidation and CO2 reforming of methane on Pt/Al2O3, Pt/ZrO2, and Pt/Ce–ZrO2 catalysts

The partial oxidation and CO2 reforming of methane were studied on Pt/Al2O3, Pt/ZrO2, and Pt/ Ce–ZrO2 catalysts. The reducibility and the oxygen transfer capacity were evaluated by oxygen storage capacity (OSC). The effect of the support on the cleaning mechanism of the catalyst surface was investigated by the sequence of CH4/O2 and CH4/CO2 pulses. The Pt/Ce–ZrO2 catalyst showed the highest sta...

Surface modification processes during methane decomposition on Cu-promoted Ni–ZrO2 catalysts

The surface chemistry of methane on Ni-ZrO2 and bimetallic CuNi-ZrO2 catalysts and the stability of the CuNi alloy under reaction conditions of methane decomposition were investigated by combining reactivity measurements and in situ synchrotron-based near-ambient pressure XPS. Cu was selected as an exemplary promoter for modifying the reactivity of Ni and enhancing the resistance against coke f...

Support and promoter effects in the selective oxidation of ethane to acetic acid catalyzed by Mo-V-Nb oxides

Catalysts based on Mo-V-Nb oxides were examined in bulk and supported forms for the oxidation of ethane to ethene and acetic acid. Bulk Mo0.61V0.31Nb0.08Ox powders showed rates and selectivities similar to those in previous reports. Precipitation in the presence of colloidal TiO2 led to a 10-fold increase in ethene and acetic acid rates (per active oxide) without significant changes in selectiv...

Preparation of Lanthanum–Nickel–Aluminium Perovskite Systems and their Application in Methane-Reforming Reactions

In this study we developed LaNixAl1-xO3 perovskite systems using a sol-gelmethod (with propionic acid as solvent) to use in methane-reforming reactions for producing synthesis gas. To understand the roles of the nature of the precursor and calcination conditions on the formation of LaNixAl1-xO3, we carried out identifications using NMR, FT-IR, XRD, SEM, and TEM. The precursor struc...
